AFSCME’s Saunders: During National Law Enforcement week, we honor the men and women who risk so much

WASHINGTON — AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement in recognition of National Law Enforcement Week, which is happening May 14-20, 2023:

“During National Law Enforcement Week, we honor the men and women who risk so much for their communities. Whether they’re responding to an emergency, pursuing a criminal suspect, or keeping traffic flowing safely during rush hour, they are always there to protect us and our loved ones.
“Their bravery doesn’t come without sacrifices. Too many law enforcement professionals never come home to their own families at the end of their shift. We must remember that they aren’t just men and women in uniform – they are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. That’s why, this week and every week throughout the year, we pay tribute to the officers who have died in the line of duty. And we keep their loved ones in our thoughts. In their honor, AFSCME will continue the fight for respect and dignity for our nation’s law enforcement officers.”
